Mercy Johnson-Okojie and hubby welcome their fourth child, a baby girl


Mercy Johnson-Okojie and her hubby, Prince Odi Okojie, have welcomed their fourth child, a baby girl.

The Nollywood actress gave birth to their baby at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center in Maryland, USA today May 4. Her hubby who shared the good news online, said the baby has been christined Divine-Mercy Ehinomen Okojie.

Mercy and Prince got married in 2011 aand they have three children already, two girls and a boy. Congrats to them!

Bank customers take to their heels after a Nigerian man suffered difficulty in breathing and slumped while using an ATM in Lagos


A Nigerian man slumped while using the ATM at a commercial bank in Onipanu, Lagos state today May 4.

Eyewitnesses claimed the man suffered difficulty in breathing and was running a high temperature.

Most of the bank customers took to their heels when he slumped for fear he might be suffering from the novel Coronavirus.

245 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Nigeria - 76 in Lagos alone


245 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Monday, May 4, 2020.

According to Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, out of the 245 new cases of COVID-19, 76 were recorded in Lagos, 37 in Katsina, 32 in Jigawa, 23 in Kano, 19 in FCT, 18 in Borno, 10 in Edo, 9 in Bauchi, 6 in Adamawa, 5 in Oyo, 5 in Ogun, 1 in Ekiti, 1 in Osun, 1 in Benue, 1 in Niger, and 1 in Zamfara.

Nigeria now has 2802 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 417 patients have been discharged from various Isolation centers across the country, while 93 deaths have been recorded.

Former Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Garba Nadama dies at 82


A former Governor of old Sokoto State, Dr Garba Nadama, has died at the age of 82.
According to a statement by the state government, Nadama died on Monday night, April 4, after “an illness of natural cause”.

Nadama was elected deputy governor of Sokoto State in 1979 and became a governor in November 1981, following the death of the governor, Shehu Kangiwa in equestrian accident.

Army arrests 13 impersonators in Lagos


13 fake soldiers accused of using military uniform to perpetrate crimes in Lagos in spite of the lockdown order issued by President Buhari over the outbreak of Coronavirus, have been arrested by the Nigerian army.

The suspects were identified a Ebenezer Adeleke, Afolabi Hassan, Allen Afolabi, Daramola Olamide, Akpan Joel, Eze David, Frank Eze, Joseph Okere, Ahmed Ameh and Akpan Emmanuel. It was learnt that some of the suspects who were nabbed wearing uniforms with the ranks of Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Major and Captain at different parts of Lagos, also forged an Army Provost letterhead for visa application.

This brings the total number of impersonators arrested in different parts of Lagos during the lockdown period, to 41.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) Maj.-Gen. Olu Irefin said;

“You will be shocked at the level they are impersonating the army. Both the Lieutenant and the Major have a photo frame they used to deceive members of public and when you check their internet profile or page they looked real as military personnel.

“They have used provost letter head to apply for visa but unfortunately they took a wrong channel of applying because we do not do it directly."

Femi Adesina, special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity has revealed that the person who leaked President Buhari's speech before his nationwide broadcast on Monday April 27, has been caught and now “paying for his evil action”.

The Presidential spokesperson who described the person as an "Enemy of the State who does not wish his country well", said an unedited draft of the broadcast was leaked.

Femi Adesina said the person was nabbed through the digital footprint he left after leaking the document.

"Coronavirus is real" man says as ambulance arrives his neighbourhood in Ikotun, Lagos, to pick up patients


A man in Ikotun has shared a picture of an ambulance evacuating patients from his neighbourhood.

The man seemed shaken as he recorded the ambulance evacuating "four patients".

"Coronavirus is real," the man said as he called the name of his street in Ikotun, Lagos, and begged people to take it seriously.

However, it has not been confirmed if the patients being evacuated are COVID-19 patients.

One of the medics who arrived with the ambulance had on a face mask but wore no gloves or coveralls, which are required for handling COVID-19 patients.

Edo government accuses Oshiomhole of ‘spitting on the graves’ of those who died from Coronavirus


The Edo State Government has accused the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole of ‘spitting on the graves’ of those who died from Coronavirus following his recent action.

Osarodion Ogie, secretary to Edo state government alleged that the APC Chairman held a political gathering in Benin in spite of a ban on public gathering following the outbreak of Coronavirus.

Ogie who insisted that Oshiomhole's action showed he has no regard for President Muhammadu Buhari and the collective efforts of the various agencies of government to protect and safeguard Nigerians in these dire times, urged security agencies to investigate the use of their men for the gathering they described as an "illegal assignment".

Kannywood actor, Ibrahim Ubale, has died


Ibrahim Ubale, an actor in Kannywood, the Hausa movie industry, has died.

Ibrahim popularly known as Wanke Wanke, died in Kano state on Thursday evening April 30 after a brief illness.He



 He was said to be a Hypertensive patient and had a recurring disease.

He has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Founder of DAAR Communications, Raymond Dokpesi Snr, and 7 members of his family test positive for Coronavirus


Chief Raymond Dokpesi, founder of Daar communications, his daughter-in law, along with six members of his family, have tested positive for Coronavirus.

This is coming 3 days after his son and chairman of the board of the company, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr tested positive for the virus.

A test conducted by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC on the Dokpesi family came out positive for eight members of the family.

They have all been evacuated by the NCDC to the isolation centre at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada where his son is already receiving treatment.

Reacting to the development, Dokpesi who spoke shortly after the arrival of the NCDC Ambulance, said he feels very well.
“I am of quite ok, i feel very well”, he said, an indication that his condition is still asymptotic.

On Monday, his son, Raymond Jnr, tested positive for the virus and has been sent to the Isolation center in Abuja. Contact tracing immediately commenced with his family members including his father, High Chief Dokpesi and members of his household.

The test was later extended to senior management and members of staff who had been in close contact with the company’s index case.

The entire DAAR headquarters building sitting aloft the Kpaduma hills in Asokoro District Of Abuja have since been fumigated.

One killed as petrol tanker explodes at Obalende flyover


The Obalende flyover in Lagos Island is currently on fire. The fire started after a petrol-laden tanker exploded while manouvering the roundabout under the bridge this evening.

The tanker fell on its side and exploded just in front of a fuel station. One person has been confirmed dead.

Men of the state fire service are already on ground to put out the fire. This fire incident comes four days after an NNPC fuel station in Ogba, went up in flames destroying over 30 cars.

Governor Makinde slashes salaries of senior political appointees


Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has slashed the salaries of senior political appointees in his administration by 50 percent.

The Governor made the announcement while addressing workers at a Workers’ Day event at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat in Ibadan, the state capital. He also confirmed that the state’s lawmakers also agreed to cut their salaries by 30 percent.

Makinde disclosed that his government is working hard to mitigate the shock of the pandemic on the state’s economy, and will also ensure that salaries would continue to be paid regularly by the 25th of every month.
